The 2016 Cruiser Sailing Programme began on Saturday 9th April with the Opening Muster. On the water, five sailing cruisers brushed off the drizzle and raced to Fambridge. The battle for line honours was intense, with Clara (Robert and Tracy Coyle) beating Amanda Louise (Len Cole) by less than 90 seconds (3 mins on corrected time), followed by Verlette (Steve and Katherine Barham), Zelda (Chris Nolan) and Scarlet (Sarah Brown and Zoe O'Connell).
Three motor cruisers took part in a Predicted Log event. The worthy winner was Boscollina (Andy and Gina Wood-Hill) who achieved an amazing 95.35% accuracy, followed by Nemo (Phil Shanahan - 88.60%) and Seahound (Tim and Sarah Matthews - 80.77%).
About 50 members met in the Ferry Boat Inn for a very pleasant meal. A collection was held in aid of the RNLI, raising almost £100. All too soon, members parted company: those on the water cruised back to Burnham, some meeting again in the Club for a splendid Bistro Meal and Prize Giving. Robert and Tracy Coyle, with crew Anne and Arthur Heasley, were presented with an engraved RCYC whisky tumbler in recognition of their exciting win. An RCYC highball glass will be presented to Andy Wood-Hill at the earliest opportunity.
Thanks to George Winder and Harry Hastwell in Sprite for Committee Boat and grappling with complex mathematics, to Sheena Cosens for the collection, and to Mark Eagling in the Club RIB for assisting us at Fambridge.
