Gathering together on a misty sunday morning, 7th September, two race teams from the RCYC and the RBYC drew their boats for the interclub event, the Caudle Cup. A one hour delay allowed a few zephyrs of breeze to arrive and a windward leeward course to be set for three races of two laps each.
The 1st race was level with a win for both teams on each side, Robert Coyle and Malcolm Hutchins in the RBODs and David Beale & David Smith in the RCODs.
The second race was sailed with even less wind and a turn in the tide -that was a win for the RB team. Race Three became a real lottery against a full ebb tide and the last of the day's breeze and a second overall win for the RBOD team.
Reversing back to the moorings became an even greater challenge, rewarded with lunch and drinks at the RB.
A presentation of the Caudle Cup was made to the RBOD Class Captain, Jo Head, to look after it until next year's challenge, to be held at the RCYC in the eightieth anniversary year of the Class. The RCOD class would like to thank all helms and crew from both clubs for taking part.
