With a forecast of light winds on the second day of racing, the Race Committee ran four races on the first day of the Inland Championships. With a fleet of 82 boats, everyone knew the competition would be fierce and the title of Inland Champion would be hard to achieve. The course of a triangle followed by two sausages (windward-leeward loops) was put into place and not long after the first race began.
After the two morning races it was hard to tell who was in what place, with the wind being shifty and the strength changing all the time, it was a challenge to keep in a top place. After lunch we went into battle again, with the wind becoming ever more challenging than before. Nick Sutton & Thomas Jayasekara (Corinthian Otters) in 7514 took the lead in the third race, but after tough competition finished fourth.
Going into the fourth and final race of the day, we knew that Abigail Croft & Alex Page (Frensham Pond) in 8363 were leading the event with just six points, closely followed by a determined Katie Barr & Scarlett Anderson (Corinthian Otters) in 8435 with just thirteen points, and in third place Ben Binmore & Martha Jones and Henry Mills & Robert Keen level on fifteen points. With the race under-way Katie & Scarlett took an early lead which, as the wind died off and the race was shortened, secured them a first place. That meant they were also in first place overall.
The prediction for no wind on the second day was correct and in the afternoon racing was abandoned. With only fourteen points from four races, Corinthian Otters Katie Barr & Scarlett Anderson were titled Cadet Inland Champions 2010!
