A good day, it was enjoyed by all sailors of the Optimist fleet. We had about ten boats out including five sailors from the RYA winter Zone squad. 15-20 knots provided a challenge for the fleet, especially those who had not sailed through the winter. Duncan Ayre, as Race Officer, set a windward leeward course for us which kept us all on our toes, especially the downwind leg.
The first race proved to be an interesting race, James Hutton-Penman coming first, Arthur Brown coming second and Chay Taylor, who capsized 10 seconds before the start, managing to fight his way back to third. The second race results followed the first race with James winning, Arthur second and Chay third.
In the final race James came first to seal the overall win, Chay came second and so finished third overall and finally Arthur finished third and ended up second overall.
It was great to see the new Optimist river sailors who came out to see the racing in RIBs and hopefully learnt a bit from us. Also well done to all the competitors who sailed really well in difficult conditions.
