Chris is following in the footsteps of Otter Coaches Clive and Graham Page who were hugely successful in Mirrors and won the National Championships in Newquay in 1971. He has also taken a page out of the Page brothers' book by enlisting the skills of Dick Lonton - and his team at Lonton and Gray - to make his sails.
On the weekend of 1st and 2nd July Chris, together with his new crew Oliver Townsend from Ripon SC, travelled to Annadale SC for the Scottish Championships where, in very light and fluky conditions, they scored one of their best results - 1st overall in the Silver Fleet.
Although he was a keen Otter Optimist sailor, Chris now mainly sails his Mirror from his home club at Brightlingsea, as the Otters no longer have a Mirror fleet. The Class is, however, strong throughout the East Coast and, having recently introduced an optional Bermudan rig, further reducing costs and making the boat easier for younger sailors to rig, there is renewed interest.
