A message from the RCOD Vice Class Captain, John Waples
I have much admiration for Jeremy Clarkson and the late AA Gill for their skills in penning motoring and restaurant reviews and keeping the details of whatever car or restaurant they were trialling to a bare minimum. When it comes to a RCOD race report I am not even going to attempt that difficult balancing act. I will spare you the intricate detail of a bodged mark rounding that denied said crew of victory; suffice to say we are having good races and in many cases, it is only seconds that separate the leading boats.
The fleet has more important news to share and top of that list must be our purchase of Corinna, the boat formerly owned by the late Admiral of the Fleet Bobby Melville and passed for one year on to John Reid.
John has taken on a huge property project in the West Country and has decamped there to complete it. That left Corinna on his front drive and she needed a home. The fleet decided to buy it and we are now chartering her out for weekends with a view to finding another buyer. So far we have had a lot of interest and anybody who wants to have a go please get in touch with the Club Secretary who will pass your details on. Even if it is just for a Saturday afternoon race, it is worth a trial outing.
Other news is the restoration of Coral Nymph, which is now half complete, merely needing another £15,000 spent on her! Which brings us to the point of this short note. Yes, it is that time of year for the fleet to tap our close friends for class funds! These are beautiful boats and if we can get all 16 restored and out on the water it will make for a fantastic site and great racing. Your support at our annual fundraiser is always greatly appreciated.
